Born in Brisbane and raised in Scalea, Chiara Barbera tells us about the cultural interconnection project she conceived. “Our mission is to explore every corner, alley, and street to discover the hidden treasures in the local people who, with humility, carry on the customs that represent the true and simple beauty of Italian culture. We call these people the ‘Creatori della Cultura’ (Culture Creators), because they are the ones who give color to our country, keeping alive the traditions that make up our culture.” With these words, founder Chiara Barbera speaks about her intercultural connection project, which literally bridges Calabria and Australia by promoting ancient traditions. The young entrepreneur, an Australian from Brisbane of Italian descent, was captivated by the beauty of the Riviera dei Cedri during a trip and has since lived there for many months each year. From Brisbane in 2018, she decided to go to Scalea to personally meet her Calabrian relatives and delve deeper into her origins. Once there, she was captivated by the beauty of the Tyrrhenian coast and understood from the very first moments that she wanted to create a bond between her homeland and Calabria. Hence, the idea of opening a portal to give foreigners the opportunity to discover the Riviera dei Cedri and, above all, its traditions, not just culinary ones; one can take part in a grape harvest, olive picking, or visit a farm, learn to make cheeses, cook typical dishes, or create wicker baskets. «The options – says the young entrepreneur – are endless».
